THEMES:

Southern Gothic
Southern Gothic wallows like a feral hog in the ambiance of the Gothic macabre, fused with the dark underbelly of the American South. With its lingering themes of insanity, desperation and decay, the Southern Gothic exhumes the pervasive specters of bygone rituals and pervasive racial obsessions of the South in lushly lyrical fashion. Nosetouch Press welcomes original short stories of the Southern Gothic, and encourages writers to expand its frontiers, while embracing its terrifying traditions.

Email entries to submissions@nosetouchpress.com | .doc or .rtf format • Please state “AA2-Southern Gothic” in your subject line. One entry per category, per person.

CREATURE FEATURES
Monsters have always enticed people. They can embody larger than life, elemental forces that threaten the everyday, established order of nature, itself. The aberrant nature of monstrosity communicates a fundamental wrongness or evil. Nosetouch Press wants writers to summon unforgettable creatures in their stories, unique monsters that shake the ground and make waves, bringing terror wherever they go.

Email entries to submissions@nosetouchpress.com | .doc or .rtf format • Please state “AA2-Creature Features” in your subject line. One entry per category, per person.

————————–————————–——–

Cursed Things
The history of cursed things—objects and places—is an ancient one. The supernatural threat implied in curses carries a special kind of narrative weight that can terrify and haunt anyone who encounters them. Nosetouch Press is looking for chilling stories of cursed places and things, with tales of horrifying curses and the history that follows them.

Email entries to submissions@nosetouchpress.com | .doc or .rtf format • Please state “AA2-Cursed Things” in your subject line. One entry per category, per person.

This Book is Cursed

Nov 20, 2017

Length: Up to 7,500 words
Payment: ½ cent per word for original works, $10 for reprints + contributor copy
Submission Guidelines:
https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_posts/15895224-call-for-submissions—this-book-is-cursed
The curse is as old as folklore itself. They are the malediction of gods and witches, protections of the pharoh’s tombs, the warnings for would-be thieves. Before the days of Hollywood, the werewolf was the victim of a curse. Today they linger with sports teams and in the theatre.

Armoured Fox Press is looking for all manner of horror stories related to curses. Bloodlines with a black mark, tainted objects, locations under a hex, and anything else cleverly twisted into a curse. Be creative, don’t just send us yet another unlucky penny, but something new that makes us hesitate to step on a crack or ignore that warning.

We’re currently seeking short stories for an upcoming anthology titled Lost Films. In 2016 we released Lost Signals, which has done very well for us. Think of Lost Films as its sequel.

We are looking for horror stories involving films, Hollywood, projectors & projectionists, home movies, webcams, television, documentaries, and other themes involving recorded visual disturbances. We want these stories to be weird and terrifying.

Some good examples of what we’re after: Cigarette Burns by John Carpenter, Starry Eyes by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer, Experimental Film by Gemma Files, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, “Ardor” by Laird Barron, Videodrome by David Cronenberg, Angel of the Abyss by Ed Kurtz, and everything else discussed in this LitReactor article.

She moves with deliberate grace.

Mami Wata, Momu Watu, La Sirene, Sedna, Coventina, Suijin, Mother of Waters

She is the water between us, the water within us, the water that slakes thirst, from which we were born. Water is the natural and the sacred, the functional and the necessary. All over the world, in cultures young and old, water is life and from this force, great adventures, quests, and legacies begin. And whether it is still, moves, rises, or falls, water fills us. Imagine what stories and strange tales can be told from the depths of its depths.

TROUBLE THE WATERS: Tales from the Deep Blue will be a new anthology of water-themed speculative short stories that explore all kinds of water lore and deities, ancient and new as well as unimagined tales. We want stories with memorable, engaging characters, great and small, epic tales and quieter stories of personal and communal growth. Science fiction, fantasy, horror, interstitial, and unclassifiable works are welcome. We are seeking original stories in English (2500 – 7000 words; pays 6 cents per word) from writers of all walks of life from this beautiful planet and will accept some select reprints (pays 2 cents per word). Deadline: November 1, 2017. Projected publication: November 2018, Rosarium Publishing, www.rosariumpublishing.com. Please send submissions as a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file in standard mss formatting with your name, title, and word count to: TroubletheWaters2018@gmail.com

Please note that we are unable to accept simultaneous or multiple submissions.
